What is a private doctor house call?

A private house call relocates the medical consultation into your own home. While Berlin's statutory system relies on practice visits or the 116117 on-call service, RAB guarantees private patients and self-payers a personal history, physical examination and treatment on site – delivered by a board-certified specialist rather than an assistant.

We arrive with a mobile practice: ECG, pulse oximetry, blood-pressure measurement, rapid tests for influenza, streptococcus, Covid-19 and urinary tract infections, otoscope, ultrasound capability on request, and emergency medication according to Berlin pharmacy standards. Roughly eighty percent of acute care questions can be resolved at home.

Typical scenarios include febrile infections, gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections, bronchitis, otitis, migraine attacks, back pain, hypertensive crises or the decompensation of chronic disease – including sick certificates and follow-up prescriptions.

Specialist guarantee, not an emergency lottery

Berlin's care system separates rescue services (112), the statutory on-call duty (116117) and private medicine. We operate strictly in the third segment. Every visit is performed by a fully licensed specialist, typically in general or internal medicine, often with additional emergency-medicine qualifications.

Medical direction lies with Susanne Reiche; Tobias Reiche is the owner and managing director. The team includes Dr Francesca Costantino, Dr Katarzyna Kwiatkowska, and physicians Henrik Venus, Anton Uporov, Sebastian Brunner and Alexandr Tomchiver.

This structure is not a marketing detail. When a Charlottenburg patient calls at two in the morning with acute shortness of breath, it is the examiner's experience that decides whether outpatient therapy will suffice or a hospital admission must be organised.

Arrival times, availability, districts

In central districts – Mitte, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Pankow (including Prenzlauer Berg) and Tempelhof-Schöneberg – we typically arrive within sixty to ninety minutes of confirmed booking. For Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Reinickendorf and Treptow-Köpenick, allow seventy-five to one hundred and ten minutes during Berlin rush hour.

We are reachable daily from 6 am to midnight, 365 days a year. Between midnight and 6 am we refer life-threatening symptoms to the emergency services (112) and other concerns to 116117. This honest triage is part of our duty of care.

Bookings are made by phone at +49 30 550 77 870, via WhatsApp on the same number, or through the form on akuttherapie-online.de. A short description of the symptoms is sufficient – dispatch will decide whether a house call is indicated.

GOÄ, PVS and private patients

Billing follows the German fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ) and is processed by the private medical billing agency PVS. Private and civil-servant insurance holders submit the invoice to their insurer; reimbursement rates for justified house calls are typically one hundred percent.

Self-payers receive identical care but settle the invoice themselves first. On request we issue a written cost estimate in advance. No co-payment is collected on site – the invoice is mailed by PVS after the visit.

Patients with statutory insurance may use the service as an individual health benefit. We recommend consulting your insurer beforehand to clarify whether a hardship contribution applies.

How the visit actually unfolds

After your call, dispatch records name, address, symptoms, pre-existing conditions and current medication. The next available specialist accepts the case, may call back for triage, and travels to you by car or taxi.

On site we perform a complete physical examination, add rapid tests or an ECG where indicated, and discuss diagnosis and treatment with you. You receive a private prescription, a sick note if needed, and a written physician's report that can be forwarded to your primary care provider.

If your condition worsens within twenty-four hours, a follow-up call is naturally free of charge. Should symptoms deteriorate, we arrange continuity at the Reiche private practice or a hospital admission to a suitable Berlin clinic.

Q&A

Frequent questions

What does a private doctor house call in Berlin cost?

Billing follows the German GOÄ fee schedule and depends on time of day, weekday and scope of examination. A regular daytime house call typically ranges between 180 and 280 euros, while a nocturnal visit after 10 pm is considerably higher. Private and civil-servant insurance usually reimburses the full amount provided the medical necessity of the house call is documented. On request we provide a written cost estimate before the visit. Self-payers receive identical care.

How quickly does an RAB private doctor reach my district?

In central districts – Mitte, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Pankow and Tempelhof-Schöneberg – we typically arrive within sixty to ninety minutes of confirmed booking. For Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Reinickendorf or Treptow-Köpenick, the range is seventy-five to one hundred and ten minutes depending on traffic. Dispatch provides a realistic estimate on the phone. We communicate honestly – if a visit will take longer, we tell you in advance.

Can I book a house call without private insurance?

Yes. Self-payers receive identical care to privately insured patients – the GOÄ invoice is issued after the visit and is due within fourteen days. Patients with statutory insurance can also use the service as an individual health benefit, although statutory funds do not reimburse it. We recommend consulting your insurer beforehand to clarify whether a hardship contribution may apply in your case.

Will I receive a sick note during the house call?

Yes, provided the medical indication exists. After examination and history we issue a sick certificate on private prescription form, which is accepted by German employers. Electronic transmission (eAU) for statutory insurance is legally not available to us; in that case you receive a paper certificate to forward yourself. We decline sick notes without examination as a matter of medical due diligence.
